  • Hanover Church supports a number of local outreach programs through financial gifts, volunteer efforts, donation of space, and prayer. We also host many community groups and organizations for events, programs, and meetings related to their missions. Some of these are:
    1. Community Gym: a variety of groups have used the gym for recreation. In partnership with Christiana Care, a Zumba® and weight loss class are using the gym every Tuesday and Thursday evening
    2. Yoga: free yoga classes are offered every Friday evening from 6:15 to 7:30, newcomers are always welcome
    3. Female Harmony Society: Oversees the income from a bequest of a former member of the Society, Elizabeth Caulk, who died in 1839
    4. Clothing Closet: open Wednesday mornings (except in July and August), distributes men's, women's, and children's donated clothing
    5. Food Pantry: open every Thursday morning serving individuals and families in need. Please bring your photo ID along with any documentation for household members who need food. People usually start lining up at 7am, doors open at 8am. We serve a breakfast while people get food.

  • St. Patrick's Center
  • Description of Services
  • * Senior Nutrition Program Congregate midday meals are served everyday of the year for seniors age 60 and older in the dining room, and meals are delivered to homebound individuals. Over 9,000 meals are served annually and over 5,000 meals are delivered. Program provided in cooperation with CityFare.
    * Commodity Supplemental Food Program for Seniors USDA food boxes are distributed monthly to seniors who register for the program and meet income criteria. Over 700 boxes are distributed annually. Program provided in cooperation with the Food Bank of Delaware.
    * Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities Seniors and others with disabilities receive transportation to and from their homes to the Center with service provided six days each week. Transportation is provided for medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other activities as planned. Over 10,000 trips are completed annually.
    * Emergency Grocery Program Individuals and families in need of emergency food receive a three day supply of groceries. Over 2,000 people are served annually.
    * Produce Distribution Fresh produce is provided three days each week and distributed based on availability from various sources. Over 7,000 people are served annually.
    * Homeless Respite Services Daytime services are provided on weekdays for people who are homeless. A safe secure environment out of the weather, use of phones, laundry and shower facilities, clothing, information and referral, and other services are offered. Over 30 people are served each month.
    * Clothing Bank Good quality used, and sometimes new, clothing is offered to people of all ages every weekday. There is no charge to recipients, although donations are accepted. Over 3,600 people are served annually.
    * Breakfast Program A hot made-to-order breakfast is provided every weekday at minimal cost. Over 2,400 people are served annually.
    * Recreational and Educational Activities Participants at the Center utilize the space available to engage in activities of their choosing. These include weekly Bible study, Bingo, cards, Triominos, puzzles, educational presentations, or other activities. A monthly newsletter is provided.
    * Individualized Services Some participants need additional assistance that is not formally offered as part of a program. Based on specific needs and/or requests by family members, certain individuals receive help with money management, check cashing, assistance with setting up medical appointments, telephone reassurance, and other services. About 20 people each month receive at least one of these services on a regular basis.

  • The Congregate meals served on site daily is an age entitlement program for anyone 60 years of age or older - there is a request for $1.50 donation - not required to receive service - Under 60 people are required to pay $4.00. The morning Breakfast program is available to anyone regardless of age - La Carte - an average of 75 cents. The Grocery Club has 587 regular members and accounts for 362 children who are eligible to come weekly.

  • Sunday Breakfast Mission
  • Description of Services
  • Sunday Breakfast Mission is a Christian mission that provides a variety of programs for individuals and families who are homeless, have drug abuse problems, as well as social and emotional disabilities. It also offers housing options, community meals and clothes for men, women, boys and girls. Additionally, the mission offers family counseling, Christian worship and Bible study services for needy families through its community outreach program. It also offers household goods, food and appliances to low-income families through its thrift store ministry. Sunday Breakfast Mission conducts conducts back-to-school rallies and provides school supplies and backpacks to school-age children. The mission operates a career education center, which provides learning, reading and work life planning opportunities.

  • The food bank, at 110 Poplar St., serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day and also provides about 35 families with 50-pound boxes of food twice a month. Breakfast served to those who stay overnight.

    Community Meal: A hot, nutrious meal is served to more than 200 men, women and children each night. Served at 6pm: arrive around 5:30pm.

    Medical Clinic
    The doors to the mission open on Tuesday nights to offer basic medical care to people living on the streets.

  • The Ministry of Caring, Inc.
  • Description of Services
  • The Ministry of Caring is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides a network of social, health and support services for those living in poverty, including the homeless and working poor, in greater Wilmington. The organization has grown to include numerous shelters, transitional residences and long-term housing facilities, three dining rooms, child care programs, a dental office and other facilities.

  • Emmanuel Dining Room helps alleviate the immediate needs of Delaware's hungry with nutritious meals served at no cost and with no questions asked. Every day of the year, guests of Emmanuel Dining Room are seated in a clean, cheerful dining room and served a nutritious meal in restaurant fashion. All who come through its doors are warmly welcomed.

  • St. Stephen's Lutheran Church

  • The Lutheran Community Services (LCS) Food Pantry at St. Stephen's is the busiest food pantry in the state of Delaware. We provide three days' of emergency food provision to 800-1000 families each month.
    On the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings (5-7pm) each month, St. Stephen's hosts a produce distribution in conjunction with the normal food pantry distribution. This evening distribution helps to better serve the families in need by offering those working during the day more convenient hours. This shift from day time to evening hours enables us to reach another 125 families.
